Coventry City are just one win away from English football's domestic top-flight.

They take on Luton Town at Wembley in the Championship play-off final this afternoon (26 May).

The Sky Blues finished sixth in the league at the end of the season to secure themselves a place in the play-offs and beat Middlesbrough over 1-0 over two legs to grab a spot to play amongst some of the biggest clubs in the world.

A win this afternoon would make Mark Robins' side the fastest team in history to rise from League Two to the Premier League.

Coventry were in League Two in the 2017/18 season - and just five years later - could be playing against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The previous record was held by AFC Bournemouth under current Newcastle manager Eddie Howe - who achieved the same feat in six seasons.

Coventry were last in the top-flight 23 years ago - being relegated at the end of the 2000/01 season alongside Bradford City and current champions Manchester City.

City's total allocation of over 36,000 tickets have sold-out for the showpiece in the capital - with an extra 500 tickets being released a few days ago due to demand.

Ahead of the game against Luton Town, Sky Blues boss Mark Robins said:

"I think it'll be a really interesting game - two teams going at it to get into the Premier League. Both teams are really well supported, it's going to be raucous, it's going to be noisy, it's going to be very hot...and really, nothing's going to prepare them the team for the noise."

Travel disruption

There's a warning to fans heading to Wembley about potential problems on the trains. Chiltern Railways are urging supporters to use alternative travel routes.

In a statement, the operator said: "Wembley Stadium’s Safety Advisory Group was made aware that Chiltern Railway services are severely over-subscribed. Chiltern Train services to and from the game will not be able to cope with the demand.

"Return services will be particularly hit with capacity at 50% of the number of tickets sold, leaving thousands of Coventry fans stranded in London.

"Fans should seriously consider using alternative travel options as set out below. Other train operators are not affected."

Kick-off for the Championship play-off final of Coventry City vs Luton Town is 4.45pm.
