Coventry City of Culture: Famous Faces

We take a look at some of those people who're from the city, who've had great success.

As week 1 of Coventry City of Culture comes to an end, we're looking at some of the famous faces who've come from the city.

The city of culture team have promised to tell the story of Coventry, past, present and future, when their signature event 'Coventry Moves' takes place in a couple of weeks time.

Here's just a few of those who are from the city, and have gone on to achieve big things.

Delia Derbyshire

Delia was the co-creator of the Doctor Who theme tune, back in the 1960s. She created the electronic music that you can hear on the theme.

She passed away 20 years ago, but a charity was set up in her name to provide education on music technology.

Clive Owen

Clive is an actor. In 2005, he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the drama Closer.

He's also appeared in The Bourne Identity and Sin City

Ian Bell

Ian was a professional cricketer for Warwickshire and England.

He played 105 Test Matches for his country, and was part of the famous 2005 Ashes winning squad.

It was the first time England had regained the Ashes from Australia for 16 years.

Sinead Matthews

Sinead is an actress who appeared in a few episodes of season 3 of The Crown on Netflix.

She's also had roles in the Nanny Mcphee films, The Boat that Rocked & Black Mirror

The Specials

The Specials are a 2 Tone and ska revival band, which formed in Coventry in 1977.

They had seven consecutive UK top ten singles, and their lead singer Tony Hall is playing a part in the city of culture celebrations.
