Coventry City book their place in play-off final
The Sky Blues are just one game away from booking their place back in the Premier League.
Mark Robins' men beat Middlesbrough 1-0 last night at Riverside to book their place in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
The game was decided by a second half strike by Gustavo Hamer in the 57th minute.
The win means Coventry are now - potentially - 90 minutes away from securing their place back in the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years.
The Sky Blues were relegated from England's domestic top-flight at the end of the 2000/01 season along with Bradford City and Manchester City.
The last 20 years haven't been plain sailing for the Sky Blues, though, as five years ago they were in League Two - the lowest professional step in the English Football Pyramid.
Promotion back to the top-flight on 27 May would also make Coventry the fastest team to ever make it back to the Premier League from League Two.
The previous record was achieved by AFC Bournemouth - having completed the task in six seasons under current Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe. Mark Robins could achieve the same feat in one season less, should they beat the Hatters later this month.
Speaking after the game, Coventry defender Luke McNally told the club:
"You want to be involved in the big games and the big moments and thankfully I have been since I joined in January."
āBig game to go, thereās no point in celebrating too much now, weāre obviously buzzing, Luton probably are too, but we have to go there an put in a really big performance."
Tickets for Sky Blues will go on Priority Sale today (18 May) at 10am, with tickets going on general sale on Monday 22 May at 10am.
Coventry have been allocated 26,237 tickets for the Championship play-off final.
The game takes place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 27 May with a kick-off of 4:45pm.
