Coventry bin worker dies whilst on duty

A bin worker has died whilst on duty in Coventry.

It's believed the incident happened on Guild Road in Foleshill.

The city council said it happened earlier today (January 19) whilst the person was carrying out their duties.

In a statement, the authority said: "Earlier today, one of our senior bin crew tragically lost their life while undertaking their duties.

"This will impact on collections across the city as we deal with this incident.

"We are co-operating fully with the Police and the Health and Safety Executive and supporting all staff.

"We will provide residents with an update on the service when we can.

"The thoughts of everyone at Coventry City Council are with the family and friends."
