A man was arrested after police raided a suspected drugs factory in Birmingham.

Officers found more than 700 plants at the industrial unit in Perry Barr last Wednesday (10 Jan).

Sina Xhelo, 29, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with cultivating drugs and has been remanded in custody until his court appearance next month.

The electricity supply at the industrial unit, which had been bypassed, was made safe by specialist engineers.

The equipment was dismantled and the plants will be forensically checked before being destroyed.

West Midlands Police said: "Cannabis farms are very dangerous places and pose a serious risk of fire. Every cannabis farm we destroy also helps prevent a vicious circle.

"The plants won’t end up as street deals, the profits won’t go on to fund other crime, and they won’t ruin lives or pollute our communities."
