Officers were called just after 3:30pm yesterday (Wednesday 18th Decemeber) to reports of two people being injured near the rear entrance of Selfridges.

A 17-year-old man was taken to hospital with a hand injury and a 18-year-old man with a slash wound to his head and a broken ankle, in what police believe was an "isolated incident".

West Midlands Police say there was an increased police presence within the Bullring, including armed officers last night, which continues today to offer reassurance to shoppers and visitors to the city.

Detective Inspector Lauren Glass, from force CID, said:

“We’re working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened yesterday afternoon.

“The two men received nasty injuries in a busy shopping centre, a week before Christmas; there is no place for this level of violence within the city.

“We’re doing all we can to identify those responsible and I urge anyone with any information who hasn’t already contacted us to get in touch.”
