The long-awaited Commonwealth Games will start this summer July 28th to August 8th.

The summer games will welcome over 6,000 athletes from more than 70 countries and millions of spectators. Given the scale of the operation, the Commonwealth Games organising committee has announced thousands of temporary jobs.

There are a variety of roles on offer including security, stewarding, catering, cleaning, retail, transport and logistics.

The organising committee have already undertaken a recruitment drive at Birmingham Library and other venues. Birmingham Library will host another jobs for the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday 20th April 2022.

All the roles pay at least the West Midlands living wage and can last from three weeks to three months.

We spoke with Elham Afzal a volunteer recruiter for the Commonwealth Games. Ms Afzal told us; “There are no formal experiences or qualifications that are required for a majority of the jobs. We do want to make sure that it is an opportunity anyone can get involved with”.

Applicants from all over the UK are welcomed to apply, however, Ms Afzal said; “We are hoping to get as many local people as possible, we do want it to be a workforce that is reflective of the West Midlands”
