Birmingham Christmas Shelter opens its doors 24 hours a day for five days during the Christmas period so that up to 150 homeless and other lonely adults can enjoy Christmas.

People are given a free safe place to sleep out of the cold. They are also provided with three hot meals, snacks and drinks throughout the day, showers, entertainment, companionship and services such as footcare, hairdressing, massage and housing advice.

This year’s Christmas Shelter will be held at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Primary School in Lee Bank.

It will be open from the 24th December at 10am to the 28th December.

Trustee Tej Singh tells us they expect this to be one of their busiest years yet: " With the current cost-of-living, we think there will be an increase in numbers this year, as more people are struggling.

"We don't say we can change the world but for the people attending we can change the world for them whilst they're at our premises.

"The biggest thing we can say is that we offer people company, safety and security. They can speak to people and be valued as a member of society," he said.
