A community cafe in Northfield, Birmingham, is helping locals out through the cost-of-living crisis by having a 'pay what you can' service.

Lil's Parlour is open to customers picking what they pay for the baked goods, with all the money being put back into the business and community.

The business caught popularity when Lucy shared a TikTok about how the company works.

Lucy Scott run's the cafe and started it after she almost lost her life and decided to make the move into a community cafe.

She said: "I just felt after nearly losing my own life, I wondered what my own legacy would be, and I wasn't happy with it because all I've wanted to do was give back to the community and that's when I made the decision."

With the rise of energy prices and inflation, many households in Birmingham are having to miss out on luxuries, like going to a cafe to have a cake and drink.

Lucy said: "Often the people that are coming in often have multiple jobs to make ends meet, and it's good they can take their children out without the worry of fulfilling a financial object.

"Community to me is like a warm hug and it's the chance to open up to someone without judging you and successfulness can be measured in kindness and community efforts."

Lil's Parlour is open on a Friday and Saturday.
