The airline, Flybe, has announced its new headquarters and crew base will be based at Birmingham Airport.

The company collapsed in March 2020 as a result of the pandemic before it was bought out by Thyme Opco.

Over the next three years, around 600 jobs are set to be created with plans to kick start domestic services and flights to the EU from in spring next year.

Speaking about the new West Midlands base, Flybe CEO Dave Pflieger said: “...It was an ideal choice for us due to its great people and highly skilled workforce, its central UK location, and the fact that Birmingham Airport is a global travel hub where local and connecting customers have access to over 150 worldwide destinations.

Announcements about new routes, destinations, and ticket prices from Birmingham are due to be announced over the next few months.

Andy Street, Mayor of West Midlands, said: “Flybe’s choice highlights the strength of the aerospace sector in the West Midlands and the talent pool available."
