Man hit over the head with baseball bat outside Nuneaton shop

Warwickshire Police are now appealing for witnesses

An investigation is underway in Nuneaton after a man was hit over the head with a baseball bat in the street.

It happened outside the Wilko store, on Church Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day (Saturday) at around 3:30am. It's understood three men got out of a taxi and approached the man in his 20s.

The victim was then assaulted with what is believed to be a baseball bat. He was taken to hospital having sustained head injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

The three men are reported to have left the area in an unknown direction.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: "Enquiries are currently ongoing and we’re keen to speak to anyone who has information or may have been in the area at the time of the incident.

"Officers would also like anyone who could have mobile phone footage of the incident to get in touch.

"Anyone with information or footage that could help should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 126 of 1 January."
