Driver arrested after walker left with potentially life-changing injuries

A walker has suffered potentially life-changing injuries after being hit by a car, paramedics have said.

The crash happened at just after 11pm on Tuesday in Blackwell Road in Barnt Green and police have arrested the driver.

An ambulance, two paramedic officers and the MERIT Trauma Doctor and Critical Care Paramedic were sent to the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A spokesperson added: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a man who had suffered multiple injuries.

“He was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to the Major Trauma Centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham; the doctor travelled with the ambulance crew due to the seriousness of the patient’s condition.

“No-one in the car was injured.”

West Mercia Police said a grey BMW X2 was travelling east when the crash happened, with a 43-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

It said the pedestrian was a man in his 20s.

PC Joseph Curry said: said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was in the Blackwell Road area of Barnt Green at around the time of the collision on Tuesday night who may have seen, or have dashcam footage of, the BMW prior to the collision.”
