A man has been convicted after he started a fire at his house in Leamington.

The fire was started by George Moore, 24, on 5 May 2021 as he tried to make a bomb by putting aerosol cans into a microwave at his house in Cubbington Road.

Moore has been jailed for three-and-a-half years at Warwick Crown Court after pleading guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

Someone else was in the house at the time of the fire. Fortunately he escaped the property uninjured.

Moore also pleaded guilty to possession of a knife after a blade was seized from him while in custody.

Detective Sergeant Jen Baker from Leamington CID said: “This was a reckless act that caused substantial damage to the house in which Moore lived. His behaviour was quite clearly dangerous and his actions on the night could easily have resulted in more serious harm being caused. We are fortunate that no-one was injured in the incident.”
