Whether it's Carol Vorderman, David Walliams or Joe Wicks, a number of high-profile celebrities have been offering their educational services for free during the current Coronavirus lockdown.

With schools shut across the UK, and many children being home schooled, legendary TV broadcaster David Attenborough has now lent his support, signing up to teach children Geography lessons in a new BBC education initiative.

The 93-year-old will present topics like animals and oceans as part of a new programme on BBC Bitesize Daily, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Red Button.

David isn't the only famous face to sign up to become a teacher, a number of other well-known stars are also taking part in the new initiative, with subjects like Maths, English, History and Spanish all being covered.

EastEnders actor Danny Dyer will teach five to seven-year-olds History, whilst Manchester City footballer Sergio Aguero will help children count in Spanish.

Former Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls has been drafted in to create a Maths class for 11 to 14-year-olds, whilst Professor Brian Cox will deliver Science lessons.

Singers Liam Payne and Mabel will also be involved, as well as Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse, and 200 fully qualified teachers.

Director of BBC Children’s & Education, Alice Webb, said, ‘We’re proud that the BBC can bring together so many people to offer such a wide-ranging package of support to help children and parents right across the UK at such a challenging time.

‘We said the BBC would be there for people through this crisis, and we meant it. It’s vital that every child is able to continue learning – and the lessons we’re putting on will make sure they have fun at the same time.’
