15 year old girl dies in Weymouth railway incident

A 15 year old girl has died in an incident on a railway line at Weymouth this morning (Tuesday 23rd March).

British Transport Police say they were called out at 2.25am today, after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

In a statement, they've explained what happened:

“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining injuries caused by electrocution. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind her death and her family are being supported by specialist officers."

BTP detectives are now looking for information into what happened, and are asking any witnesses in the area of Greenway Road in Weymouth between 1.00am and 2.30am today to get in touch with them.

The incident did lead to disruption to rail services between Weymouth and Dorchester this morning, but services have now returned to normal.
