Britain's youngest knife killers, who used a machete to stab a man to death in Wolverhampton, will have their sentences reviewed by Attorney General's Office.

The boys, who were aged 12 when they attacked and killed Shawn Seesahai in Wolverhampton in November 2023, were jailed for life with a minimum term of eight years and six months.

Their sentences have now been referred to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the AGO said: "We have received a request for this sentence to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme. The Law Officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision.

"The Law Officers can refer cases to the Court of Appeal but it is the Court that is the final arbiter on whether a sentence is increased or not."

Following the sentencing of the two boys at Nottingham Crown Court last Friday (27 September), Shawn Seesahai's family voiced their disappointment at the minimum terms handed down by the judge.

A statement released on their behalf said: "Whilst the family recognise that today justice has been served in respect of the horrific murder of their beloved son Shawn, they are disappointed with the sentence.

"Shawn’s life was violently taken away at the hands of individuals who were knowingly carrying a machete, which they used to violently kill their beloved son.

"No one hearing the details of this case could feel anything other than horror at the violence that took place that evening, where Shawn was stabbed in the heart and kicked in the head on the ground.

"The family had hoped that the sentence handed down would reflect this abhorrent violence."
