Police, Parliament and Ambulance Service release statements following Westminster terror attack

At the time of writing, there are reports of two confirmed deaths, a woman on Westminster Bridge who is believed to have been struck by a vehicle that ploughed into crowds, and a police officer who was stabbed outside Houses of Parliament.

The MET police have released a statement following the incident that has taken place on Westminster Bridge and outside the Houses of Parliament.

The statement included the fact that the Senior National Coordinator has declared this a terrorist incident.

The London Ambulance Service have also released a statement confirming they have treated 'at least ten patients on Westminster Bridge' and have put a number of hospitals on alert as they continue to respond to this incident.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said 'There has been a serious incident near to Parliament Square this afternoon which is being treated as a terrorist attack until the police know otherwise.' He continued, 'I would like to express my thanks to the police and emergency services who work so hard to keep us safe and show tremendous bravery in exceptionally difficult circumstances.'

Mr Speaker and the Lord Speaker have made a statement following the incident in Westminster.

"An extremely serious incident has occurred in the Westminster area this afternoon. The Metropolitan Police is dealing with this and an investigation is underway.

“On behalf of Members of both Houses of Parliament, we wish to offer our thoughts to all those affected and their families.

“We would also like to that express our gratitude to the police and all emergency services.”
