Police name 13 year-old victim of fatal road crash in Colchester

Essex Police says it's now in a position to release the name of the 13 year-old boy who died, after a collision in Colchester at the weekend.

Taylen Ireton, from Colchester, died after a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Mersea Road shortly before 9.20pm on Saturday (21 September).

An investigation has been opened by detectives in the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) and Taylen’s family is being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers at this difficult time.

Three teenagers from Colchester have been arrested.

Two 19 year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, while an 18 year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

They have been released on bail until 4 December.

Detective Sergeant Same Nason, from SCIU, said: “We continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision and to support Taylen’s family through the forthcoming days.

“We appreciate that a number of people spoke with officers at the scene, but we’d still like to speak to anyone who may have information or dashcam footage that could help us.”
