A police officer has been left with serious leg injuries after being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Walsall.

The officer had been trying to speak to a driver around Resevoir Place in the early hours of Saturday morning (February 24th).

During the stop, the driver of the car then hit the police officer before pushing them over a police car, before making off to avoid the force.

Since then, the car has been found abandoned - with police now launching an immediate appeal for information in the hopes of identifying and finding the driver of the vehicle.

Following the incident, the officer was taken to hospital for urgent medical attention, and was later described as having serious injuries to their legs.

A second officer who was also at the scene when the incident occurred, also was taken hospital for their injuries which are not serious.

Speaking on the incident, Chief Superintendent Phil Dolby from the Walsall Local Policing Area condemned the move by the driver.

"An officer has been injured while going about their duties and this is completely unacceptable," Dolby said.

"We're waiting for further updates on the extent of his injuries and our thoughts are with them and their family.

"We'll be offering them all the support we can, alongside colleagues who were there at the time."

Anyone who may have any information or footage from the area is being urged to get in contact with West Midlands Police as soon as possible.

Those who may have seen something important are being asked to call the force, quoting incident reference number 1403 from February 24th, 2024.
