A man from Greater Manchester who'd been threatened with a potential court appearance for not paying £1.90 to Northern Rail is no longer facing action.

Sam Williamson from Broadbottom accidentally underpaid for a ticket on an app using his railcard - which he was told wasn't valid.

The company had threatened to prosecute him - but after the government asked for the case to be reviewed, that warning's been dropped.

Sam's posted on social media to confirm what's happened.

He says further action's needed on the issue, despite his complaint being resolved.

Earlier this week a spokesperson for Northern told us everyone has a duty to buy a valid ticket - and check the terms and conditions.

The Department for Transport admitted things have got too complicated - and it had asked Northern to urgently assess this case and others that are similar.
