A man has been arrested after police cars were rammed, injuring three officers, in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said officers out on patrol tried to speak to a man acting suspiciously in a VW Scirocco on Montpellier Street, Highgate, at around 9.30am on Saturday.

The man tried to drive off, ramming three police vehicles and a parked car before being arrested.

Three officers were injured. One was taken to hospital but has now been released, while the other two suffered more minor injuries.

Tools and a number of sets of number plates were found in the Scirocco.

A man aged 40 has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding of police officers, going equipped to steal, criminal damage to four vehicles and aggravated vehicle taking.

He’s also been held on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, drug-driving and possession of a bladed article.
