Man, 21, left with 'potentially life-threatening' injuries after being hit by tram

A 21-year-old man has been left with 'potentially life-threatening' injuries after being hit by a tram in Oldham, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to the tram track near Bullcote Lane late on Friday night.

The man remains in hospital.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 11.20pm last night (Friday 11 October 2024) we responded to reports of a collision between a tram and member of the public on the tram track near to Bullcote Lane, Oldham.

"The member of public, a 21-year-old man, has been taken to hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, where he remains.

"Metrolink services continue to be impacted this morning whilst our Serious Collision Investigation Unit make further enquiries. We appreciate the patience of those who use the service."

Tram services between Rochdale Town Centre and Oldham Mumps remained suspended through Saturday morning as an investigation at the scene continued.
