A Hereford and Worcester fire engine has come under attack, by people launching fireworks and rockets.

The Service says West Mercia Police came to the rescue of its staff.

It describes the incident as "really disappointing".

In a statement, HWFRS said: "A Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Wyre Forest Fire Station was called at 20:29 on 5 November to a fire in the open at Tennyson Way, Kidderminster.

"An unofficial bonfire was extinguished by the crew. During the incident, police were requested to attend due to fireworks being aimed at the crew and exploding 6-7 metres away from them.

"Crews retreated until police (log 431i) were in attendance with the area then dampened down to prevent reignition.

"There were no casualties and the incident was marked as pending closure at 21:01."
