The Chelmsford pub formerly known as the Wheat Chief has rebranded to the 'Jarrod Bow Inn' in a temporary tribute to England and West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen during the Euro 2024 tournament.

Tanith, co-manager of the pub with Paul, told us: "We only took over the site back in March this year. Paul and I brainstormed various ideas to rejuvenate the pub. With the Euros coming up, we wanted to involve the locals."

The idea was put to a public vote on social media, inviting suggestions for a new name. "We launched this back in April and by May we had received around 166 different name suggestions," Tanith said. The names were narrowed down to three: the 'Jarrod Bow Inn', the 'VAR Bar', and the 'Three Lions Inn'. A second poll led to an 80% majority favouring 'Jarrod Bow Inn'.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive

"We’ve been a tad overwhelmed by the response to the temporary name change. We’re absolutely loving that people are getting behind it. The atmosphere here for the games has been electric"

Gelsenkirchen. 16th June, 2024. Jarrod Bowen (L) of England vies with Filip Mladenovic of Serbia during the UEFA Euro 2024 Group C match between England and Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on June 16, 2024.

As England prepares for their second Euro 2024 match against Denmark tonight, hopes are high following their 1-0 victory against Serbia. Jarrod Bowen, who nearly assisted a goal in the opening match, is a key player to watch.

Tanith expressed her excitement: "We hope everybody's enjoying it and having a good time. We’re looking forward to the second game as well tomorrow evening.

And do we think it’s coming home? I’d love for it to come home and even better, we’d love for Jarrod to score for us as well."

England can secure their place in the knockout stages with a victory against Denmark this evening.
