Now at the age of 34-year-old the tennis player has put all her troubles behind her, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, beating Jennifer Brady - 13 years her junior.
In a post match, on court interview she described herself as a "tough little cookie" offering advice to others who have gone through tough times saying,
"F everything and everybody, whoever tells you you can’t do it. Just show up and do it with your heart."
Mirjana is now ranked 79th and her first round win in the Australian Open was her first main-draw win since 1998.
