Miller extends Rangers stay
Kenny Miller has signed a one-year extension to his current contract with Rangers, the Ibrox club has confirmed.
Kenny Miller has signed a one-year extension to his current contract with Rangers, the Ibrox club has confirmed.
The 35-year-old striker is in his third spell with the Light Blues and has scored five goals in 13 appearances this season.
Miller has also taken on a coaching role with Rangers' under-20s team, working under their manager Ian Durrant.
Miller, struggling recently with a groin strain, will remain at the club until at least the summer of 2017 and he spoke of his desire to repay Mark Warburton for the faith he has shown in him since taking over as Rangers manager in the summer.
Miller told RangersTV: "I am absolutely delighted. It was unexpected to have the conversation so early in regards to staying for another year.
"It's great to get it done and dusted, and I'm back firmly focused on getting back fit, back playing.
"I'm very, very thankful that the manager has seen enough in the first four or five months to offer me that extra year, and hopefully I can repay him with some good performances, a few more goals and hopefully a promotion to get us back to the top league next year.''
The former Hibernian, Celtic and Derby striker's third spell at Rangers commenced in the summer of 2014 under then boss Ally McCoist when he signed a one-year deal with the option for a second year.
Miller says he always wanted to extend his stay with the Scottish Championship leaders.
"I was hoping so,'' he said.
"With the initial contract being a year and a year option, I always looked at it being two years, but with a view to hopefully staying and hopefully finishing off here.
"That's the aim, but you need to make sure you're contributing day-in, day-out to earn the new deal.
"The manager has seen in these five months that every day in training, I'm giving everything I've got and ultimately, I'm still contributing on a match day, whether that be as a starter or a substitute.''
