Lewis Horner bundled home an injury-time equaliser for Inverness as Caley Thistle claimed a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Dundee United. Horner turned in Carl Tremarco's cross in the second minute of added-on time to cancel out Billy Mckay's late strike, with the 27-year-old, who left Inverness in January for Wigan, showing great opportunism to pounce on a goalkeeping error for what looked to be the decisive goal. Another former Inverness player John Rankin gave Mixu Paatelainen's side the lead after 26 minutes but a smart finish from Liam Polworth straight after half-time restored parity. Caley Thistle made one change to the side that beat Kilmarnock a week ago, replacing Josh Meekings with Horner, while Richie Foran returned to the bench. Dundee United made three changes, bringing in Rankin, Chris Erskine and Scott Fraser for Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Blair Spittal and John Souttar. United flew out of the traps and had a sight of goal within 20 seconds, Mckay inches away from getting on the board against his old club from Erskine's cross. Gary Warren managed to get a toe on it to turn it behind and Guy Demel planted his header from the resulting corner over the bar. Warren was in the thick of things again in the opening five minutes, conceding possession cheaply to Mckay and allowing him a run on goal. Fortunately for the hosts, Danny Devine came across to deflect his shot which Owain Fon Williams then blocked. A deflected effort from Miles Storey was kept out by Michal Szromnik but at the other end, United were still picking holes in the Caley Thistle backline and deservedly took the lead. Scott Fraser found space in behind Horner and cut the ball back for the on-rushing Rankin, who thumped the ball into the roof of the net. Devine came inches away from a spectacular goal when, after juggling the ball, he angled the ball wide before James Vincent passed up two glorious opportunities to equalise before the break. He first failed to connect properly with a tame shot that Demel cleared off the line before somehow missing the target from six yards with a header, after Polworth picked him out. In need of a spark, Inverness got one at the start of the second half when Danny Williams landed a cross at the back post and Polworth was on hand to sidefoot past Szromnik. John Hughes's men were certainly a more effective attacking proposition in the second half and had Iain Vigurs lifted his head to see Horner unmarked to his right instead of shooting himself, Inverness could have gone in front. If Polworth had been more decisive when closing in on goal with 20 minutes to go, Inverness would have had their second goal. Polworth caught Gavin Gunning in possession and bore down on Szromnik but instead of drilling the ball at goal, tried to pick out Vincent at the back post. Rankin got back in time to cut out the danger. Inverness were made to pay for their profligacy when former hero Mckay scored after capitalising on Fon Williams spilling Erskine's cross, a goal that that would have given United their first win in the league since October 31, before Horner's intervention. The former Hibernian midfielder notched his first goal for the club in the dying seconds to ensure the spoils were shared.
