Martin Canning believes his team should have been awarded a penalty as Hamilton and Kilmarnock played out a goalless draw at Rugby Park.

Accies had two penalty claims in the first-half which were not entertained by referee Euan Anderson, while Killie striker Kris Boyd also pleaded for a spot kick after tumbling in the box under pressure.

Meanwhile Hamilton's Ali Crawford had two first-half opportunities to open the scoring and Kilmarnock forward Souleymane Coulibaly threatened to break the deadlock at the beginning of the second half.

Canning said: I thought Dougie Imrie's was a penalty.

I don't think Dougie's got any reason to go down. He's the wrong side of the defender and he's driving into the box. He's not going to go down unless there's contact.''

Also, if I'm being critical again, Kilmarnock's defender Jonathan Burn's been booked and then he's made a foul almost identical to the one Grant Gillespie got booked for.

But that's nothing to do with the end result.I thought overall we've done enough to win the game. We've had enough chances and we should be putting them in the back of the net.

I feel for Ali Crawford. He's really down in the dressing room. He had two or three opportunities and on another day, he puts them in the back of the net.

We'll take a point and we'll move on.''

Meanwhile, Lee Clark voiced his frustration at not securing victory which would have lifted Kilmarnock into the top-half of the table.

The Killie manager admitted his players showed a lack of quality in the final third and said: I don't think we deserved to lose, I don't think we deserved to win.

Going from four or five months ago escaping relegation by the skin of our teeth to then possibly being in the top six - it would have been great.

I don't know where our lack of quality came from.

There looked like there was a little bit of anxiety.

I was a bit frustrated in the dressing room.

Sometimes the players might get surprised at that because we haven't lost the game, we've drawn 0-0.

But I want to come into the dressing room and looking at what's above us and not what's behind us.''

We had a fantastic opportunity after last night's result between Partick Thistle and Aberdeen, just to have a feel good factor.

But it's not the end of the world.''
