Forrester wants to 'kick on' after earning new Rangers contract
Rangers winger Harry Forrester is determined to improve further after earning himself a three-year deal at Ibrox.
Rangers winger Harry Forrester is determined to improve further after earning himself a three-year deal at Ibrox.
And the 25-year-old is confident he and his team-mates can show they are ready do that against Celtic on Sunday.
The former Brentford and Doncaster player joined the club on a six-month deal at the turn of the year and convinced Mark Warburton he was worthy of an extended deal after scoring five goals in his last nine matches.
The former Aston Villa trainee said: It feels brilliant. When I came here in January, my aim was to be here longer than six months. They offered me three years which is a good show of faith on their behalf.
"At first it was a slow start for myself, catching up with the boys on fitness and the team were doing so well. I wasn't playing at my previous club, so I had to catch up on fitness and sharpness.
"And then coming to Rangers is pressure in itself. You have 50,000 every week cheering you on. They support you but it's a bit of pressure.
"But of late I have come into the team and hopefully I can stay in the team.
"The manager has just told me to keep going, I have settled in well but I have got to kick on again. It's not going to be easy next year and I will go away this summer and work hard.
"He (Warburton) has been instrumental. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here now. For him to believe in me, to believe I could cope with Rangers, it gave me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can continue to impress.
"I just wanted to come up and do myself justice. I didn't want to let myself down or let the gaffer down. It's up to me to kick on again."
Forrester insisted he was "totally fine" after going off in Rangers' 4-0 Petrofac Training Cup final win over Peterhead on Sunday with a knock.
And he is confident Rangers can give Celtic problems when they make a quick return to Hampden in the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-finals.
Forrester gave Rangers the lead after 13 seconds in their quarter-final against Dundee.
And he said: "We got off to a flying start and it was against Premiership opposition. That gave us belief that we can mix it up there with the league above and we believe we can get something out the game.
"We believe in the dressing room. We talk day in, day out. We have to keep improving but it's a good test for us on Sunday."
Forrester admits the influence of Old Firm veterans David Weir, Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace will be beneficial for himself and other newcomers to the fixture.
"I watched a couple (of Glasgow derbies) when I was younger but I was concentrating on my own career," he said.
"The likes of Kenny, Davie and Waldo can only help the group."
