Dundee United ended their recent losing streak as they fought out a 1-1 draw with Inverness in a Scottish Premiership match at Tannadice. Jackie McNamara's side had suffered a run of four successive league defeats going into this encounter with John Hughes' men but took an early lead through on-loan Wigan striker Billy McKay. However, the hosts were denied victory when Josh Meekings headed home for the visitors early in the second half to leave the Tangerines still sitting second from bottom. United made two changes from the side which lost 2-1 at home to Kilmarnock last weekend - striker Darko Bodul started while John Rankin was also back in the starting line-up. United threatened their unchanged visitors as early as the second minute when Ryan McGowan shot over from 20 yards after Sean Dillon's cross was only half-cleared. However, the hosts took the lead in the sixth minute through McKay, who poked in his second goal in as many games from close range after goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams had blocked a Rankin effort. United ought to have made it 2-0 four minutes later when Rankin saw his shot saved by Fon Williams, after Callum Morris had squared the ball to him. Inverness' first real attack came midway through the first-half when a diagonal ball from Ryan Christie almost set free James Vincent inside the United box, but home keeper Luis Zwick was quick enough off his line to gather. Shortly after, McKay latched onto a loose ball outside the penalty area and unelashed a powerful left-foot drive which brought out a fine save from Fon Williams. On the half-hour mark, Inverness winger Daniel Williams crossed looking for Vincent - but he could not connect with his head. Inverness who equalised in the 56th minute. Christie's corner to the back post was missed by McGowan and Meekings rose unchallenged to bullet a header high into the net from inside the six-yard box. That gave the visitors a big lift, although defender Mark Durnan almost restored United's lead on the hour - but his back-post header from Fraser's corner landed in the side-netting. In the 63rd minute Inverness midfielder Greg Tansey fired in a 30-yard effort which whistled just past Zwick's right-hand post. Both sides pushed for a winner but in the end neither had the guile to snatch victory.
