Arquin overturns red card
Yoann Arquin has successfully overturned the red card which cut short his St Mirren debut.
Yoann Arquin has successfully overturned the red card which cut short his St Mirren debut.
The former Ross County frontman lasted just 37 minutes on his Buddies bow last Saturday as he was sent-off against his former club after catching Dingwall defender Lewis Toshney with a late tackle.
But Saints have confirmed their appeal against referee Brian Colvin's decision was successful, with the red card downgraded to a yellow by the Scottish Football Association's judicial panel, and Arquin is now free to face Dundee on Saturday.
A club statement said: Following this morning's appeal it has been confirmed that Yoann Arquin's red card has been reduced to a yellow card.
Arquin faced a suspension after being red carded in last Saturday's Premiership match against Ross County at the Global Energy Stadium, but today's appeal decision means he is now available for selection for Saturday's Premiership match against Paul Hartley's Dundee side at St Mirren Park.''
Meanwhile, midfielder John McGinn claims caretaker boss Gary Teale has provided the spark the Buddies will need to beat the drop.
The former Scotland winger has masterminded a marked improvement in performance since replacing axed boss Tommy Craig last month.
Results have taken time to come but after beating relegation rivals Ross County on Saturday before a decent 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United on Wednesday,
McGinn believes Saints have now turned a corner.
The Scotland Under-21 midfielder - whose side are now four points clear of the Staggies, albeit having played two games more - said: When you are where we are in the table and play a team as good as Dundee United, you should be happy with a point, but the lads are gutted in there.
We played really well and deserved to win. That's credit to Gary. You could see how all the boys are fighting to the end.
We have all rallied round in the last few weeks. The team spirit has always been there but we just weren't playing well and confidence was low.
But the win against County has given us a wee lift and hopefully we can now build on it. We're only two points behind Motherwell now and Gary made the point after the United game that if we win on Saturday and they lose, we'll go above them.
It's about looking up now, rather than looking down.''
