Aberdeen determined to spoil Celtic party
The Hoops can wrap up their fifth straight Premiership crown if they avoid defeat against Derek McInnes' men.
Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack insists the Dons are determined to spoil Celtic's title party on Sunday.
The Hoops can wrap up their fifth straight Premiership crown if they avoid defeat against Derek McInnes' men.
But after pushing the champions-elect for so long, Jack is no mood to see the Parkhead outfit celebrating in front of their own fans this weekend.
He said: "We want to go to Celtic Park to win. We are well aware of the title party talk but we want to make sure they are not celebrating in front of us and our fans.''
With Celtic nine points in front with three games left, and also possessing a huge lead on goal difference, Aberdeen's hopes of landing the title are realistically long gone.
But they can edge closer to surpassing the record of 75 points for a non-Old Firm side which they set when finishing runners-up to Celtic last year.
And Jack is keen to ensure his side finish the campaign with something they can look back on with pride.
"That record is there for us to achieve and it's something we want to do,'' he said.
"We want to go beat that points tally and improve on last season's performance in the league.
"We haven't done ourselves justice in the cups because we went out early but in the league we have the chance to set a new record, which would be a great achievement.''
Dons have had their ups and downs in recent months as their title challenge flickered into life before being stubbed out.
But their crushing 4-1 victory over Motherwell last week confirmed second place at the very least and now the captain wants to stretch the confidence produced by that win into the summer.
He said: "We've got a really tight squad and a group of lads who get on with one another really well.
"At times during the season that has shown. We had a wee dip of form at the beginning of the season but we got together as a group and decided we had to get out of that and put it right.
"After that we went on a long run of winning games and being unbeaten.
"So as a squad we want to finish the season strongly and then take the momentum we can build up by winning a few games into the European campaign come June."
