There are reports of youths "throwing fireworks" at cars in Edinburgh’s Niddrie area.

Officers had closed Niddrie Mains Road between Duddingston Road West and Duddingston Park South.

This has now reopened.

However, a large police presence remains around Hay Avenue tonight.

Images on social media show a helicopter with a spotlight in the air.

A video also shows a large fire behind a row of flats.

Police say there have been no injuries.

Shortly following the unrest, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Moonbeam resources are assisting local officers in the Niddrie area following reports of youths throwing fireworks at vehicles.

“Niddrie Mains Road is currently closed between Duddingston Road West and Duddingston Park South.

“The public are asked to avoid the area.

“There are no reported injuries are enquiries are ongoing.

“If you have information about planned criminal activity involving fireworks this evening, please contact us 101. If you wish to report an ongoing crime then dial 999.”
