Worker assaulted in robbery at Tranent shop

Staff at a shop in East Lothian have been left shaken after a man assaulted one of them before stealing cash.

The incident took place at Mini Market on New Row in Tranent, at about 8.15pm on Thursday.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault and robbery, which resulted in a 21-year-old man sustaining minor injuries.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his 40s, around 6ft, 2in, of medium build and with short brown hair and dark stubble.

He was wearing black boots and dark jeans, a jacket, scarf and peaked cap.

Police have not said how much cash was stolen in the raid.

Detective Inspector Keith Mackay said: This was a very distressing incident for the staff members involved and we're conducting numerous inquiries in the local area.

We'd urge anyone who may have seen the suspect, or who recognises his description, to come forward as soon as possible.''
