A pensioner has died after being hit by a bin lorry on Morningside Road in Edinburgh.

The 85-year-old woman was killed in a collision with a private refuse vehicle close to a pedestrian crossing and the junction with Jordan Lane at around 11.45am on Sunday.

Sergeant Andrew Miller, of Police Scotland's road policing unit, said: "We’re appealing to anyone who might have seen this elderly woman before the incident happened, or indeed the refuse truck.

"The woman was walking with a wheeled walking aid, similar to a Zimmer frame, and we’re hopeful anyone who might have seen her will come forward with relevant information."
