Witness Appeal: Edinburgh Taxi Rank Assault

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was assaulted in the city centre over the weekend. The incident happened around 10.40pm on Saturday 3rd October in Rutland Street. An 18-year-old male was waiting at the taxi rank outside the Caledonian Hotel with some friends when his group became involved in a dispute with another group of males. At this time, the victim was punched to the face and sustained an injury to his mouth before the suspect and the rest of his group left the area. Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward. The suspect is described as white, late thirties, around 5ft 8ins tall with a skinny build and brown hair. He was wearing a dark blue t-shirt with a red logo on the front and also had a distinctive ring on his left hand. Detective Constable Carole Sneddon said: "The victim sustained a facial injury and we are now conducting various lines of inquiry to trace the male responsible. "Anyone who witnessed the assault or who has information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately."
