Witness appeal after cyclist kicks child in Leith

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist assaulted a child last weekend.

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist assaulted a 19 month old child last weekend.

The incident happened on the cycle path close to Leith Links on Saturday 9th January 2016 around 4.30 pm when a passing cyclist deliberately kicked the toddler.

The little girl was walking with her father and both had moved out of the way to give the cyclist room.

The cyclist is described as being white and in his mid 20’s and of medium build. He is clean-shaven with dark scruffy hair and dark circles under his eyes. He was wearing dark jeans and a black hooded jacket.

He was riding a silver mountain bike.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

Sergeant Mark Wilson of Leith Police Station said: “Thankfully the child was not seriously injured but this was still a distressing and inexplicable incident.

“We are keen to speak to anyone with information that can help us with our inquiries and assist us to trace this suspect.
