Train times from Edinburgh to London could be cut to three hours under a new plan announced today.

The Scottish and UK Governments want to deliver high-speed rail lines, with planning possibly starting next year.

It's hoped the deal will ease congestion on cross-border routes, create jobs, investment opoortunities and economic benefits for Scotland.

It comes after an HS2 report was published today, with suggestions on how to make the plans a reality, including proposals for upgrades to existing routes, or creating new ones.

Work is now planned to be carried out in 2017 to identify options with the best business case for implementation from 2019 onwards.

Cabinet Secretary for Infastructure, Keith Brown, announced the deal this morning at Waverley station.
