WATCH: Police say suspicious package found in Edinburgh was shoebox
Police in Edinburgh say a "suspicious package" that forced officers to carry out a controlled explosion in the city centre last night was a shoebox.
The item was discovered by a park ranger within a shelter in the park at around 5:40pm. The worker called Police due to concerns over the contents of the box.
A controlled explosion was carried out a couple of hours later but analysis confirmed the item did not pose a risk to the public.
Police said they were treating the incident with the "utmost seriousness".
Nearby King's Stables Road remains closed while investigations continue.
