WATCH: Edinburgh Council set to vote on tram extension
Councillors in Edinburgh will today vote on whether to give the green light to the extension of Edinburgh trams to Newhaven.
The project would cost £207m and will lead to construction of the 2.8 mile stretch of line down Leith Walk over the next three years.
If it goes ahead, the development would be complete by 2023 and it is predicted around 16 million passengers would use the service within its first year.
But the proposal has also faced alot of backlash with many concerned it could follow in the footsteps of the previous development which faced delays and went overbudget.
An inquiry in to that project is ongoing but it yet to conclude.
A decision on the extension is expected to be made by full council before lunch time.
