Lothian bus drivers are speaking out against violent attacks they’ve suffered while driving through Edinburgh.

The operator has released a video of a driver speaking anonymously about the time he was struck by a rock and needed counselling to return to work.

He said: “I could see the rock coming towards my driver’s window. It just shattered.

“Even the thought of just going on a bus is now causing me quite big problems.

“That night I found I couldn’t sleep because I kept ‘hearing’ all the noises – the bang especially.

“I’m normally a very confident person, but this has wiped me out.

“I’m meeting a counsellor now to try and talk through it and see if I can get out the other end.

“I love my job, I love driving. I feel it’s just destroyed me – whether it’s temporarily or permanently – hopefully not permanently.”

Transport officials are trying to raise awareness of the impact that anti-social behaviour is having on the key workers helping others to get around the Scottish capital.

It follows recent incidents involving youths.
