A wartime shock on Portobello beach today - after a suspected explosive was discovered in the sand.

Police were called just before 10am on Tuesday to an area near Kings Road and Kings Place.

Bomb disposal experts were brought in - and confirmed it was an unexploded munition dating back to wartime.

A controlled explosion was safely carried out, and the cordon has now been lifted.

Police Scotland has said there is no risk to the public.
