A vigil - including a minute of silence - has been held in Edinburgh's city centre five years on from the death of a cyclist.

Medical student Zhi Min Soh was run over by a mini bus on May 31st 2017, it's believed her bicycle tire might have become stuck in a tram line.

The 23-year-old from Malaysian had won a scholarship to study here.

With the permission of her family, the cycling group infrasisters organised the event next to Zhi Min's memorial on Rutland Street.

They are asking for quicker action from the council to make cycling in the capital safer.

Organiser Hayley Weetman said:

"It is still dangerous and loads of people are still falling over at those tram tracks.

"It's like, we're waiting for another accident like that to happen. It's totally avoidable. We don't want that to happen.

"No family should ever have to go through the pain of losing a loved-one like this. We want to let Zhi Min's family know we care, and that this mustn't happen to anyone else.

"We are urging Edinburgh Councillors to support a vision zero strategy in the city as a matter of urgency."

The Council:

City of Edinburgh Council Transport Convener Councillor Scott Arthur was at the vigil, along with several other local represenatives.

Earlier in the day, we asked Cllr Arthur what the Council go do to make cycling safer in the Capital.
