University students to help teach maths at Trinity Academy due to staff shortage
University students are to help teach maths at a school which has been struggling to recruit staff.
Third-year students reading mathematics at Edinburgh University will assist with S2 and S5 lessons at the city's Trinity Academy.
They will help a full-time teacher in another subject take the classes.
Students are expected to begin next week.
It comes after Trinity's head teacher wrote to parents in September highlighting the recruitment issue.
Councillor Ian Perry, education convener at City of Edinburgh Council, said the vacancies are currently being re-advertised.
He said: We have been working closely with the school over filling the vacancies and will continue with the various measures put in place, which has the support of the Parent Council, to minimise disruption to the pupils' learning.
Our priority remains ensuring that the curriculum continues to be delivered to the highest possible standard.'
