An Edinburgh based Ukrainian community centre is to set up a hub for donations of humanitarian aid.

The Edinburgh Ukrainian club is looking to do what it can to help people in the country, and those who have fled.

They are asking for items to be dropped off at their base on 14 Royal Terrace.

Chair Linda Allison told Radio Forth News:

"We are looking for toiletries and ladies sanitary products.

"Medicines, bandages, painkillers, that sort of thing.

"None perishable food such as instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chocolate bars, energy bars, pot noodles

"Adult and children clothing and shoes, sleeping bags, camping mats."

Mrs Allison tells us that they've been "overwhelmed" by offers to help.

Delivery drivers have been offering to help take the donations to Poland or Hungary where they can be distributed to those that need them.

"We've been touched, we really have been by the generosity of the Scottish people.

"In terms of moral support, in terms of sending money into our fundraising page and donating these things." she said.

On how important these items will be for those who have been forced to leave their homes in Ukraine she said:

"It'll make a massive difference.

"There's people fleeing Ukraine and they're going to the borders, and whilst the neighbouring countries are taking these refugees in, it's difficult for them to be able to offer them all of these things.

"So if we can get all of these goods and get them to the refugees, that'll help them immensely."

The community centre at 14 Royal Terrace will be open on Wednesday (March 2nd) between 6pm and 8pm.

They'll also open on Friday afternoons between 2pm and 6pm and on Monday mornings between 10am and 1pm.

During this time people can come to donate items.

These times will continue for the foreseeable future.
