Two Men Rescued from Flat Fire
Firefighters were called to the Edinburgh property at 3.30am
Neighbours and firefighters rescued two men from a burning flat in an early morning fire. Residents of Northfield Farm Road, in Edinburgh, used a ladder to rescue one man from the first floor flat, and firefighters rescued another man. One man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, and the other was treated at the scene alongside an adult woman for smoke inhalation.
Station Manager Alex Hume said: We were alerted by Edinburgh Control about 3.30am having received a report of a fire in a first floor property.We sent three appliance from Marionville and McDonald Road. On arrival an adult male had been rescued from the rear, assisted by neighbours utilising a ladder. Fire crews utilised six breathing apparatus and a high-pressure hose reel to enter the building and extinguish the fire and check the surrounding properties in the stair. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Two other residents also received medical treatment and oxygen for smoke inhalation, and one adult male was removed to Edinburgh Royal for further treatment.''
Fire Scotland has urged residents to install working smoke alarms in their properties and to contact them for a home fire safety visit.
