British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for witnesses after two local men were assaulted and robbed of a laptop computer at Bathgate station on Saturday, 27 December 2014.

Around 4.40pm one of the victims – a 32-year-old man – was engaged in conversation with five other men at the ticket barriers of Bathgate station. He was then assaulted by the group who punched and kicked him to the ground.

His 25-year-old brother attempted to intervene and was also assaulted. The men responsible then made off from the station in the direction of Edinburgh Road taking a laptop belonging to the 32-year-old man as he lay on the ground.

Both men attended St John’s Hospital in Livingston and were treated for facial and head injuries before being released. The men responsible for the attack are described as being aged in their late teens to early 20s.

One was of slim build and wearing a black jacket and he spoke with a local accent. Another was slim with a clean shaven, spotty complexion and wore a white hoody, dark tracksuit trousers and white training shoes and also spoke with a local accent.

Another of the group was wearing a grey tracksuit. There are no descriptions of the other two men available.

Detective Constable Andrew Egan, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, said: “This appears to have been an unprovoked assault and robbery and I am anxious to hear from anyone who was at the station at the time to come forward with any information regarding the identity of those involved. CCTV shows a number of members of the public had also intervened at the time and I am keen to hear from them.”
