The family of a 27-year-old man who died in a road accident have said he will be sadly missed.

William Bertram, known as "Wink'', was on his way to work when he was killed a crash on the A6094 near Howgate, Midlothian, at about 7.30am on Saturday.

Police said a heavily damaged Honda Civic was discovered by another driver in a wooded area next to the westbound carriageway.

Mr Bertram was taken by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but later died.

A family statement released through police said: "William was a hard-working, fun-loving and very well-liked guy who will be sorely missed.

"We appreciate everyone's condolences and would ask the media to leave us alone to grieve at this very sad time.''

Mr Bertram was born and raised at Shiphorns, Eddleston, and attended Eddleston Primary and Peebles High School.

He previously worked for local business Graham J Irvine for six years and had been working for Akela for the last year.
