Train driver arrested at Waverley Station for allegedly being drunk on duty
It follows an incident on Wednesday
A train driver has been arrested for allegedly being drunk on duty. The 54-year-old ScotRail employee is understood to have been detained by British Transport Police at Waverley Station in Edinburgh when due to operate the 11.30pm service to Glasgow Central on Wednesday. A ScotRail spokeswoman said the driver has been removed from duties for an alleged breach of the company's alcohol and drugs policy. She added: A member of ScotRail staff raised the alarm and immediately alerted a manager and British Transport Police.
This is an extremely rare occurrence, however the safety of our customers and staff is of the utmost importance and we are providing all assistance to rail and police authorities.'' A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: A 54-year-old man was arrested for allegedly being intoxicated while on duty. Inquiries are ongoing.''
