The SNP have been rocked by the resignation of a third councillor in Edinburgh, leaving Conservatives as the biggest party in Edinburgh.

This morning Drum Brae/Gyle councillor Clara Bridgman stepped down to sit as an independent.

This means the SNP/Labour coalition has just 28 of the 63 seats on the council, of which 16 are SNP.

Cllr Bridgman said: "I left due to concerns at how the group operated.

"By going independent I believe it will give me the best ability to represent my ward."

The Tories had a recent resignation of their own but now have the most seats on the council once more.
